The Delhi Gymkhana Club has a history spanning almost a century. Designed by British architect Robert T. Russell, the club complements Lutyens’ master plan for Delhi. As a typical example of Lutyens’ streetscape prototype, the design incorporates extensive green spaces that allow for landscape design interventions.

Russell’s site layout for the Gymkhana Club provides ample outdoor spaces, which play a significant role in the club’s lifestyle and ambiance. By analysing the existing British colonial architectural and landscape character of the club, the proposed landscape design interventions and upgrades are largely inspired by formal classical garden concepts, with contemporary touches in the material palette and utilities.
